In the north of what is now Pakistan, near Rohtas, Sher Shah Suri constructed a robust defensive structure. It has endured unharmed to the present day and has never been attacked by a storm. The major defences are made up of the towering walls, which are more than 4 km long, lined with bastions, and entered by grand portals. In Central and South Asia, the Rohtas Fort, also known as Qila Rohtas, is a remarkable example of early Muslim military architecture.
